Oh, if you could see him start out with his team You would doubt your own eyes, and would think it a dream – Wrapped up in a bear-skin to keep out the cold, And his sleigh covered over with jewels and gold, While his deer from the mountains, all harnessed with care, Like race-horses prance through the cold winter air. ‘Tis fun just to watch them and hear the bells tinkle, E’en the stars seem to laugh and they look down and twinkle.

It's Christmas Eve and ...like all children love to do, on this particular Christmas Eve there were 3 little girls who had just gone to bed after being read a story about the Baby Jesus..

Even though they knew they should be fast asleep, they could not help but wait up to catch a glimpse of Santa. Then suddenly they heard some bells jingling downstairs so they snuck down the staircase and sure enough, there he was. Wow, they couldn't believe their eyes.

So Santa knelt down on one knee before a large beautiful Christmas tree. He motioned to them to come join him. He then wrapped his arms around their shoulders and asks if they would like to hear a story.

"Oh yes, please Santa, please"

Well it goes like this:

One Wintery, starry night, a very long time ago, a young shepherd boy of about 10 years old, who loved to sing songs, was comforting his sheep on a hilltop.

Being quite cold, the sheep and their little lambs drew close to the camp fire for warmth and found comfort in his gentle voice as he sang.

Then he noticed something was wrong. One of the little lambs must have strayed away and was missing. He immediately took up his staff and carried with him a sling to go look for the lost lamb and bring it back to its mother and her warmth.

As all good shepherds do, he had taught himself how to place a small rock in his sling from time to time and spin it so fast that he could throw the stones and rocks with great speed and accuracy. This would serve him well on this ill fated night.

As he climbed to the top of another hill, he found the lost lamb held to the ground by the paw of ferocious lion.

That great lion was just about bring harm to the baby.

This had to be very frightening, but he was brave, so he confronted that lion and used his sling to throw a rock that hit the lion right between the eyes. Well, that lion jumped right up and ran away leaving the baby lamb behind.

Being ever so grateful, he picked up the baby lamb and carried it back down the hill and gave it back to its mother and sat back down by the campfire, trembling from the cold and excitement, he bowed his head and decided to write a song.

It goes like this:

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2. He maketh me to lie down in green [1] pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest [2] my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever." Psalm 23 KJV
